Formed in 1983, the
Ark-La-Tex Paint Horse Club annually has approximately 200 active
members who come from as far away as Florida, North and South
Carolina, as well as Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
Starting with eight
members and a treasury of less than $100, this 3 time Gold Star
Club and winner of several President's Club of Distinction and
Honorable Mention awards has a yearly stallion service sale that
generates an average of $35,000 a year and a futurity that pays
out between $55,000 and $60,000.
The stallion service
sale began in 1985 and sold $3,500 in services.
The following year,
the Breeder's Futurity began with four weanling classes and a
guaranteed purse of $5,000. Through the years, an Open division
was added. Classes in the futurities include halter weanlings,
yearlings, longe line classes, two, three and all ages (non-pro)
western pleasure, and reining.
The club takes particular
pride in the scholarship fund established in the early '90s. The
first two scholarships for $750 each were awarded in 2000. Annually
the club awards 2 - 3 scholarships.
The Ark-La-Tex Paint
Horse Club is a strong club with strong, hardworking members who
have devoted years to promoting the American Paint Horse in the
Ark-La-Tex region.
